Margarita Guerrero, councilor of Cambiemos Murcia, explained that there is a widespread problem regarding this type of advertising and the lack of control in relation to compliance with current regulations.
In this regard, he recalled that the General Advertising Law aims to declare illegal advertising that "present to women in a vexatious way, or using particular and directly his body or parts of it as a mere object detached from the product that is intended promote, or its image associated with stereotyped behaviors that violate the foundations of our order, contributing to generate violence "recognized in the law of Integral Protection Measures against Gender Violence.
In addition, the Plenary Session of the City Council approved in 2016 a motion at the request of Cambiemos Murcia -with the votes in favor of the entire Corporation except for the Citizens' councilors, who abstained- by ​​which the withdrawal of this type of advertising was agreed. of the public thoroughfare, in any of its formats, as well as the modification of the Outdoor Advertising Regulatory Ordinance urgently, to adapt it to the current legislation including the Criteria of the Image Observatory of Women.
Guerrero has insisted that sexist advertising perpetuates assigned gender roles, in which women are often treated as a consumer product, hence the work of Public Administrations, especially those closest to them, is "fundamental". the citizenship, as are the consistories, to tackle this discriminatory situation and generate inequality.
"The City Council has to act once and for all beyond selling speeches about Equality, more political will is needed to fight against the behaviors, situations and attitudes that reduce the image of women to an advertising claim," said Guerrero.
