Fundación Jesús Abandonado continues the works of adaptation and improvement of the Welcome Center located on the Carretera de Santa Catalina de Murcia, which enter its final stretch and which, according to its director, Daniel López, will be ready in the month of May.
As the leader of the institution explains, "this reform of the facilities was very necessary to continue delving into better care and increase the dignity of people during their stay."
Thus, they have carried out "making a huge economic effort", quantified in 242,000 euros, which have been covered with their own funds.
"Something that would be impossible without the support and generosity of the society of Murcia, institutions and media, which day by day demonstrate the charitable nature intrinsic to the Region of Murcia", the director emphasizes.
The Foundation has received the visit of the Minister of Family and Equality of Opportunities, Violante Tomás, together with the general director of Family and Social Policies, Miriam Pérez, who have wanted to know this reform firsthand, a gesture that from the Board of the Foundation, with its president at the head, José Moreno, and the management team, expressly acknowledge.
For López, "the support of the Autonomous Community in the different projects and areas in which the volunteers and professionals of the Foundation work with the homeless is very important".
The Abandoned Jesus Foundation thus bets with this reform for the continuous improvement of the dignity of the people during their stay in the Welcome Center.
Within the comprehensive care offered to people in situations of social exclusion or at serious risk of being, "includes having one of the basic needs covered as a decent accommodation, which facilitates adequate and warm participation in the different programs that are carried out during the process of social inclusion ".
Once the remodeling is finished, the pavilion will have 23 double and triple bedrooms with capacity for 60 people, with an amplitude of at least 18 m² each, greater luminosity and renovated furniture.
"Rooms definitely more cordial, more human".
"We lose four places of accommodation, but we multiply the number of rooms by four," says Daniel López, "reducing by half the number of beds per stay."
In addition, "we increased notably the equipment of hygiene and hygiene, doubling the number of showers, installing ten toilets and six more toilets, and multiplied by 3 clothes washing points".
The Abandoned Jesus Foundation, which carries out its work in the Region of Murcia together with the San Juan de Dios Hospital Order, offered accommodation last year to 1,763 people, of whom 1,669 were housed in the Welcome Center of the Santa Catalina Highway and the rest in support homes, social pension and the 'Housing First' program.
