The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with Councilor for Education, Relations with Universities and Heritage, Rafael Gómez, visited today the work being done by the Archconfraternity of the Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ, for the establishment of a new Museum that will open its doors next to the church of Carmen before this summer.
"It is a tourist and cultural resource of first level that joins the historical heritage of the city of Murcia, with works of master sculptors such as Nicolás de Bussy, Roque López, Baglietto, or Campillo," said José Ballesta, who added that "These sculptures can be seen in the neighborhood of Carmen, in the historic building adjacent to the Chapel of Christ of the Blood, which is being rehabilitated while retaining the original architectural features and richness of this building work of Pedro Cerdán."
In total, the Museum will have 600m2 for the exhibition of images, and it is also conceived as a valuable instrument destined to revitalize the cultural life of the Carmen neighborhood, integrated as an open, dynamic and versatile space.
The works, which began this Christmas, affect an area of 400 m2 and will end before the summer.
A dozen workers daily perform the work of conditioning and improving the building.
False ceilings and other elements added after the original project have already been removed.
The Museum, which will open its doors on the ground floor of former Colegio Nuestra Señora del Carmen and, previously, headquarters of the University of Murcia, will house the important set of images owned by the Archconfraternity of the Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ, popularly known as 'Los Coloraos', which will process within an exact week, Holy Wednesday.
Specifically, the new museum space will showcase the entire heritage of the six-hundred-year-old Archicofradía, with works by image makers such as Nicolás de Bussy, Roque López, Baglietto, Dorado Brisa, González Moreno, Hernández Navarro, Yuste Navarro, Campillo, etc.
