The experts conceive the historical building as an open and avant-garde art and leisure center, in which the different cultural manifestations combine with freedom.
In addition to the interior auditorium, the creation of terraces has been proposed for cultural and leisure events in the adjacent courtyards.
The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Infrastructure, Public Works and Services, Rebeca Pérez, and the councilor for Economic Promotion, Culture and European Programs, Jesús Pacheco, presided today the meeting of Cultural Experts of the Old Prison, in which the use of this historical building was approached, a building that the specialists conceive as an open and avant-garde art center, in which the different cultural manifestations are combined with freedom.
In the work meeting it has become clear that the vision of specialists in the field of culture, who have proposed different ideas for the use of this historic property, has a common denominator: "the Old Prison as an urban skeleton that welcomes new trends".
In addition to the auditorium already proposed in the architectural draft 'Muros Etéreos', it has been proposed to create terraces for cultural and leisure events in the adjacent patios, which can also host outdoor projections in summer.
Among the different uses pointed out by the specialists are video-art, concert hall, classical music, theater, handicrafts, live radio or thematic library.
As it is included in the winning project of the ideas contest, 'Ethereal Walls', a space for historical memory is also reserved in the building of the former Provincial Prison of Murcia, cataloged as a Singular Element.
In this way, the Old Prison will open as a major cultural and leisure center of reference in the heart of Murcia, multipurpose use and merging leisure and culture with a clear premise: that "the rooms are used at any time of the day and by people of any age group, achieving a high social return that opens this property to the city, "said José Ballesta, who stressed that the principles of" excellence, participation and transparency are what are guiding us in this process "
