The University of Murcia has carried out works and has acquired specific equipment for health research in the Campus of Health Sciences for a value of 3,047 million euros.
These actions have been financed with funds from the Foundation for Health Education and Research of the Region of Murcia (FFIS), thanks to an agreement signed with the University in November 2016.
The teaching institution has made improvements in the security and lighting of the building of Biomedical Research Laboratories (LAIB) and works to adapt spaces according to the needs of the research groups.
The Vicerrectorado of Economy, Sustainability and Sciences of the Health destined almost a third of the bottoms to a call of helps for the investigating personnel of the zone.
Infrastructure work has been carried out with the asphalting and the adaptation of a parking area with capacity for 1862 vehicles.
This investment has made it possible to acquire state-of-the-art equipment that will improve the quality of experimental services and general research.
In the Center for Experimentation in Biomedical Research (CEIB) an isolation biomodule has been installed that allows working in animal models that require biosafety conditions level 2. Additionally, wet laboratories have been installed for aquatic models submitted to image studies or chronobiology.
Two diagnostic imaging equipment has been acquired, an Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) equipment, a non-invasive technique that uses light waves to take photographs of the cross section of the retina for animal models, and a photoacoustic system, technique of image through ultrasound and light to perform anatomical, functional and molecular studies in live models.
According to the technical staff of the building, it is a state-of-the-art technology in terms of biomedical image, being the first equipment of this category installed in Spain.
