The Governing Board has given its approval at the beginning of the contract of the basic project of the entire building and the project of execution and construction management of the first phase of the building of the former Provincial Prison of Murcia, whose cost amounts to 210,000 euros
The Basic Project will be the one that establishes the homogeneity between the two phases: the first one that affects the head of the building, and the second that includes the back part of it.
According to the forecasts, the execution project of phase 1 will be tendered in summer so that the works can be contracted in September so that the recovery works of the Old Prison can begin before the end of this year.
The winning project of the first prize of the ideas contest, 'Muros etéreos', of the IH architects studio and whose authorship corresponds to Manuel Hernández Jiménez and Alejandro Ibáñez Benzal, will serve as the basis for the drafting of the basic execution project, which has a deadline three months
The proposal of IH Architects is fundamentally about revealing the building to the city and connecting it with it looking for the recovery of the building and the adjacent spaces, with a visual connection and real entrance to the existing courtyards and the creation of permeable elements that replace the wall closing.
The proposal includes skylights that provide luminosity, a reconstructed panopticon and a historical memory area where some of the existing cells are maintained.
Prima mainly cultural uses, with an area of ​​workshops and establish multipurpose uses, respecting the architecture of this building of the first order.
Last Monday a meeting of the Committee of Cultural Experts was held in which it was agreed that at the end of March a final proposal will be presented detailing and detailing not only the specific uses but also the management model of the future complex
