Now Murcia has been requesting information for months on the Implementation Monitoring Committee of the Town Hall Agreement with the Casino, which appointed its members in October
NOW MURCIA denounces that there is no "justification" for the Casino de Murcia to continue without opening for free at least 4 days a month, as required by law and as the Plenum of Murcia approved "9 months ago and unanimously", through of a motion of Now Murcia.
Councilor Alicia Morales criticizes that the entity does not assume compliance with the law or comply with the demand of the Municipal Corporation, "giving back in an unjustifiable way to the legislation and citizenship of Murcia, which has the right to enjoy this historic building "
The spokeswoman of Now Murcia describes as "unsupportive" this behavior of the Casino, "which distances it from the society of Murcia", while asking the mayor and the councilor of Culture "if they have urged the Casino to comply as soon as possible or, on the contrary, they have not taken any action in defense of the interests of the residents of Murcia. "
Now Murcia has been requesting months in writing information from the Councilor for Heritage, Rafael Gomez, on the Commission for Follow-up of Implementation of the Town Hall Agreement with the Casino, which appointed its members last October, "but we have no record of whether they have held meetings;
if they have reached agreements or if the Casino has objected to compliance with the law and the motion ".
The mayor stressed that the most important thing of this measure "is that the right to access to culture be strengthened", and reiterates that it is a situation that should already be taking place, "because it is a National Historic-Artistic Monument and, for therefore, also of Cultural Interest (BIC), for which the Law of Spanish Historical Heritage and the Cultural Heritage of the Region of Murcia oblige to allow free public visit at least four days a month and with a previously announced schedule " .
Morales also recalls that "the rehabilitation of the building was carried out on the basis of an urban agreement signed by this City Council, as compensation for the promoters of the urban action.The final cost of the rehabilitation was about 10 million euros, which assumes that each inhabitant of Murcia has paid more than 23 euros for the rehabilitation of the Casino. "
In view of all this, the councilor considers it urgent that the Casino adopt this measure once and that the entity and the City Council duly inform the citizenship of it.
