They have demanded the audit of the accounts of Aguas de Murcia by the municipal intervention, as it was approved in plenary session and as established by the Law of Local Treasuries
The councilors of the municipal groups of PSOE and Cambiemos Murcia Enrique Ayuso and Nacho Tornel have denounced today in a press conference the "self-contracting of the private part of Emuasa to its related companies", which implies a constant privatization of public services that impacts in the water receipts paid by the residents of the municipality.
Also, they warn that the last privatization in process, concerning the service of prioritizers (which are the technicians that evaluate the faults in situ), will suppose a cost of 250,000 euros a year, although "there is no need because it does not entail any improvement of the service and the only thing that contributes is an increase in water and greater benefits for the private part ".
For both councilors, the externalizations that are taking place "have as their intention an eviction of the public for the benefit of the private sector, in addition to contradicting what was approved in the Plenary", where motions have been defended since July 2015, demanding the creation of a working group with the councilors represented on Emuasa's Board of Directors, which to date has only met on two occasions, so they have taken the opportunity to demand "the mayor to set a date and time for a new convocation as soon as possible."
Likewise, other motions have requested the recovery of public services that have been privatized and the defense of a job that follows the principles of equality, merit and ability.
In this sense, Ayuso and Tornel alluded to the risk of illegal cession in which the Town Council of Murcia may fall by allowing the private party to limit itself to billing by acting as an intermediary using public resources.
"Of course, this shows that the Consistory does not learn the lesson after what happened at the Ramón Gaya Museum, to give an example."
The councilors have insisted that "we can not allow the money of Murcia is used to pay for unnecessary services and expensive for a privatized management when they are being provided by the public part efficiently" and, in this case, they have recalled that neighbors can not choose to have only one company dedicated to water management, it must act impeccably and enforce control of the public part, which is also the majority.
Therefore, they have advanced that they will not support the Emuasa accounts for 2017, which will be presented at the next Board of Directors as long as they are not audited by the Municipal Intervention, as required by the Law on Local Taxes and It has been approved in Plenary.
In this regard, they have reached out to the rest of the opposition groups to join this decision, which aims to regain the reins of the public part of the water company.
