25 young Murcians will learn to program Java free of charge thanks to an agreement between the City Council and Fundación Telefónica (26/02/2018)

Twenty-five young Murcia will be formed in the itinerary 'Web development with Java' in the framework of the Connect Employment program of Fundación Telefónica, which, together with the City of Murcia, are carrying out both institutions to train young people in professional digital skills from the city.

These are young people between 18 and 35 years of age who come from 80% of basic or secondary studies (ESO, Baccalaureate, Basic FP, Middle Grade Vocational Training) who hope to have a job opportunity after training in these Digital Employment courses.

During the itinerary, students will acquire the necessary knowledge and skills that will allow them to develop cross-platform web applications, using one of the most demanded programming languages ​​within the IT sector: Java.

Employment Digital is a training program in digital skills that represents a great opportunity for partnerships established with companies and organizations that need to incorporate their staff trained in technology and web development.

The Councilor for the Modernization of Administration and Development, Urban, José Guillén, explained that "new technologies are changing the world and pose a challenge for today's society, so we need young people perfectly prepared to face these changes and, thanks to this program, 25 Murcians will be able to acquire skills and knowledge establishing, in addition, ties with local technology companies ".

For his part, the councilor for Economic Promotion, Culture and European Programs, Jesus Pacheco, has indicated that "thanks to this agreement with the Telefónica Foundation we continue to promote young employment, in this case, in an area with as much future as digital. In addition, the peculiarity of this project is that not only they are given training but also they are put in contact with Murcian companies that need this type of employees ".

The curriculum consists of a core training, focused on web application architecture, which includes its design and web integration, the development of the client layer, knowledge of the MySQL data management system and agile methodologies.

After completing the specific courses, students receive 60 hours of training in skills for employability throughout the training itinerary, such as the development of emotional intelligence, teamwork, personal branding, job search 2.0 or How to conduct a job interview effectively.

During the five months of duration, the selected candidates receive theoretical and practical training on technologies and programming methodologies used in the industry and validated by the collaborating companies.

The training has the participation of experts and referents in the programming sector.

Finally, the students divided into teams develop projects that start from the real need of a company, with which they actively collaborate for its realization.

All the training modules are face-to-face and students can also continue to be trained outside the classroom.

Thus, the program works in three areas: selection, training and incorporation in companies and has a web platform.

How to participate in Digital Employment

Young people who want to participate in Digital Employment must be between 18 and 35 years old, be in a job search situation and do not need to have prior technological knowledge: they can thus prepare to be one of the digital professionals that companies seek.

The objective of Digital Employment is to serve as a bridge between technology companies and unemployed young people through training in subjects related to the most sought-after technological profiles, as reflected in the most recent forecasts of the sector: of the vacancies published in the last year in In the ICT sector, more than half were aimed at programmers and specialists in different digital developments.

The places of the courses are limited and those who wish to enter the selection process must register on the Fundación Telefónica website
