The City of Murcia is going to join the Spanish network of municipalities hosting refugees after the approval of the Governing Board held on Friday.
It is an initiative with which the consistory shows its involvement and responsibility before the effects of migratory flows caused by war or social conflicts.
"At present it is necessary to address the humanitarian crisis of asylum seekers and refugees, as well as their subsequent integration from their local perspective, which expressly requires the participation of all civil society actors, including special form to the local entities that channel the needs in a more direct and direct way that the citizens need, "Councilor Conchita Ruiz explained.
Due to this demand, on September 23, 2015, within the framework of the measures adopted by the Government of Spain in the face of the international humanitarian crisis and the increase in the number of asylum seekers, the Council of Social Rights of the City Council of Murcia, launched the Help Desk for refugees.
Among the objectives proposed by the Network of Refugee Welfare Municipalities, it is important to draw up a protocol for the reception of refugees in coordination with the institutions and collaborating entities, or to encourage the exchange of information and experiences in order to strengthen the reception and reception processes. integration of refugees in Spanish municipalities.
"We try to improve the access of refugees to the basic catalog of social services of the Local Entities, contemplating the specific needs of these groups." In this way it is possible to launch training actions aimed at civil servants and public employees of the Local Entities. relative, among others, to issues such as registration, basic services, schooling processes or occupational training ", explained Conchita Ruiz.
In this way, the efforts of the City of Murcia continue to generate spaces for participation of all social actors aimed at promoting social inclusion, preventing risk situations and promoting citizen coexistence in the local environment.
