The paving works of the Plaza San Agustín have already begun.
During this week will be the collection of materials and proceed to signal the area.
Starting next Thursday, February 22, it will be necessary to close the traffic lanes towards the Malecón garden and a traffic lane will be opened in the direction of Ronda Norte.
The traffic that goes from Ronda Norte to the Malecón will be diverted by two routes: the first one by Olma street, Escultor Sánchez Lozano street and Bolos street, by Lat buses and the bus station.
And the second of them by San Andrés street, Doctor Quesada Sanz, Sierra Nevada, Bolos street and García Alix for the Transportes de Murcia buses and private vehicles.
It will also be necessary to move the bus stop currently located next to the pharmacy on Garcia Alix Street to Sierra Nevada Street, at the side entrance of the bus station.
The works will consist of replacing the current paving stone with a continuous pavement of better mechanical characteristics than the current one.
In this way the aesthetic and design conditions of the environment will be maintained, its maintenance will be improved and the nuisances caused by noise and vibrations will be reduced.
For this, the remodeling project plans to replace the prefabricated concrete paver with a hot bituminous mixture, whose tread layer has a printed relief finish similar to the existing paving stone.
Due to the high average daily intensity of vehicles traveling on the road, the current material causes the instability of the road surface, generates movements in the paving stones and in some places leads to the ruin of the pavement.
An aggravated situation because it is a road used for access to the Murcia Bus Station and a connection between the north and south of the city.
Therefore, the proposed renovation will solve these problems.
In addition, it should be noted that in the urban area of ​​the project, the current Plaza de San Agustín, there are important monumental buildings, such as the Salzillo Museum, composed of the Church of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno and the annexed reconstructed building with the facade of the Riquelme Palace, as well as the Church of San Andrés.
Therefore, and because it is a BIC environment, it has the pertinent authorization from the Autonomous Community.
The Plaza was completely renovated by the architect Yago Bonet, who sought a total regeneration of the urban environment, as well as highlighting the representative and ceremonial character of a space that congregates once a year thousands of people who come to contemplate the formation of courtship processional and the exit of the steps of Salzillo from the church of Jesus.
The works, in which 68,244 euros will be invested, will be developed by Miguel Conesa Franco, within a period of one month.
