According to the official registry on January 1, 2017, the city has added 12 residents, while the districts have gained 2,472.
The causes of the increase in population have been due, above all, to the almost 10,000 discharges registered due to change of residence from other municipalities and to the 4,600 registered births.
Murcia increased its population by 2,520 inhabitants in 2016, going from 440,957 to 443,477 as of January 1, 2017, according to the official register that will be approved by the Plenary at its next meeting.
The variation registered has been uneven among neighborhoods and districts, so that while these have incorporated 2,472 residents, up to 275,205 inhabitants, the city has added 12 people, and maintains a population of 168,272 people, 37.9% .
The 9,825 admissions due to change of residence from other municipalities and 4,623 births are the causes that explain the variation in the population, to which are added the addition of 3,361 people who had residence abroad, 2,213 discharges by default and 96 for rectification of sex.
On the contrary, the losses were mainly motivated by a change to another municipality (8,926), by improper / duplicate registration (3,871), by death (3,134), by non-renewal (867), by change of residence abroad (704) ) and by rectification of sex (96).
Five neighborhoods exceeded the figure of 10,000 inhabitants: El Carmen -19.979 registered voters-, followed by Vistalegre -14.301-, Infante Juan Manuel -12.948-, Santa María de Gracia -12.380- and Espinardo -11.760-.
