Murcia change has submitted a motion to the plenary this month by requesting the government team that next March 8, International Women's Day, does not promote or celebrate any institutional activity unrelated to the commemoration of that day, in order of facilitating the adhesion to the Strike summoned by the Feminist Movement to the people who work in the municipal Administration.
The municipal training has insisted that it is the City Council's duty to implement public policies aimed at achieving real equality between men and women, as well as supporting mobilizations and activities organized by groups and associations for this purpose, as is the case of the Strike March 8, facilitating the participation of all people.
Margarita Guerrero, councilor of Cambiemos Murcia, pointed out that women suffer daily situations of sexist violence, which manifests itself in multiple spheres, from the wage gap to miserable pensions through glass ceilings, discrimination in the workplace, among other.
"Although the most painful face is taken by daily sexual assaults and femicides," said Guerrero, who recalled that in Spain a woman is raped every eight hours, according to figures from the ministry, and that in 2017 she ended up with at least 56 murdered women.
The motion also asks the Plenary to urge the central government to draft a Law on Equal Pay that complies with the right to non-discriminatory remuneration between women and men, a right recognized in the Spanish Constitution that has not yet been developed.
