The Councilor for Education, Relations with Universities and Heritage of the City of Murcia, Rafael Gómez, visited this morning the Territorial Delegation of the ONCE of Murcia within the framework of the IV Open Door Days that take place between 12 and 16 of February.
A period in which many schoolchildren in the municipality will get to know about the work that takes place there, thanks to the collaboration of the session and the development of the program "Murcia, ciudad enseña".
Today they have visited students of the IES Monte Miravete (Torreagüera).
"This activity aims to know the institution of ONCE, to sensitize schoolchildren about the integration of blind people, to awaken attitudes of acceptance and respect and discover new technologies for people with visual disabilities," said the councilor.
The visit takes place in the Dependencies of the Territorial Delegation of the ONCE of Murcia, to know this institution and its facilities, accompanied by the educators of the organization.
The groups participating in the conference will go through four workshops, divided into education, autonomy, typology and sports, leisure and culture.
In terms of school materials and adapted games, it allows them to know the different materials that students with visual disabilities use in the classroom: Braille typewriter, maps and adapted didactic material, models, etc.
They have been able to know the system of reading and writing for the blind, doing a small reading activity in Braille.
With respect to the ability of daily life, he has visited the Visual Rehabilitation room of the ONCE where they have seen all kinds of optical and non-optical aids for students, knowing the different mobility techniques used by blind people.
Third, and in relation to access to information and communication of blind people, schoolchildren have been able to see the different computer materials as well as the softwares that are used so that students with visual difficulties can access computers, mobile etc.
Finally, it offers the possibility for young people to get close to the adapted sports and leisure and cultural activities that the ONCE carries out throughout the course.
