The councilor for Education, Relations with Universities and Heritage, Rafael Gómez, has responded this afternoon to the socialist spokesperson, Susana Hernández, about his words on investments in schools.
The councilor explained that "the City Council, within the powers attributed to it by article 25, 2, letter N, of the Law Regulating the Bases of Local Regime of April 2, 1985, has the powers of conservation, maintenance and surveillance of the centers, so that not everything is valid when it comes to demanding actions in them. The socialist spokesperson should, at least, know which door to touch in each case ".
For this reason, during the past year 2017, "an allocation of 800,000 euros was allocated for the conditioning and maintenance of schools, for this year, and not having at this time the approved budget for the lack of commitment of the parties of the opposition, the expected figure is 700,000 as addition of remnants of the past year, "said Rafael Gomez.
"The actions carried out consisted in the repair or replacement of elements of deteriorated, and range from replacement and waterproofing of roofs, repairs and replacement of toilets, repairs of sanitation, improvement of pavement drains in courtyards, paintings of facades and interiors of the enclosures and buildings, carpentry repairs, locksmithing, plumbing, and masonry, as well as the replacement of fences that require it for proper maintenance, and repair of heating installation. "
"That is why the major investments correspond to the Autonomous Community, although the City Council collaborates in management or projects such as the installation of the shady pergolas in courtyards and recreation areas. With regard to the elimination of asbestos there is already a campaign of withdrawal gradual in all schools, and in relation to the improvement of the electrical installation and power, it collaborates in the processing of files, while regular meetings are held to transfer the needs of the center ", detailed the councilor.
