With the aim of "making the African community more visible to citizens in the municipality of Murcia through the holding of meetings and conferences", the City of Murcia collaborates through the call for Education and Awareness for Development projects with the Federation of African Associations of Murcia.
A work that is carried out from the Department of Youth and Development Cooperation and allows the management of the project "Africa lives in Murcia" with the promotion of activities such as the public celebration of the Day of African Women and the Day of Africa in Murcia .
The FAAM is a space of communication, where information and expectations are shared, which is part of the associative networks and wants to participate in the public policies that affect it, both at the municipal, regional, national and international levels.
Currently, the challenges facing FAAM as a representative of the African community in Murcia are the need to create a black community organization as well as the consolidation of associations and the federation itself.
As part of this community, "the most important thing is to fight against labor exploitation, for the regularization of people who still live and work without documentation and therefore, without being able to contribute to the social security system and without being visible despite the effort carried out, in addition to the solidarity with the serious situation of the asylum seekers and asylum seekers, "Councilwoman Rebeca Pérez explained.
The Federation of African Associations of Murcia (FAAM) was founded on January 26, 2013 in the city of Murcia and, at present, the following associations are federated:
