Sendos studies on the pollutant discharges and their control and on the programming of controlled deficit irrigation in cherry with sensors have been the winners of the two prizes summoned by the Chair of Water and Sustainability of the University of Murcia (UMU) to the best Works of End of Master, which have been delivered this Monday during an act held in the Faculty of Law.
The author of the work on the legal regime of polluting industrial discharges, granted in the form of social and legal studies, has been won by the master student of the Carlos III University of Madrid Alberto Álvarez González, who explained that there is sufficient legislation to fight against this problem and that what is needed is a determined policy against it.
Álvarez González has referred to the contamination of the Mar Menor and explained that more vigilance is needed of the discharges and require the purification of the waters before they reach the lagoon.
In the modality of technical and experimental studies, the prize has been for the student of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena Pedro José Blaya Ros.
The prize has been obtained for his research on the programming of irrigation deficit controlled in cherry with sensors, which allows, he said, a saving of 40 percent in the consumption of water resources.
They have also been awarded a second prize to Daniel Principal Gómez, and Margarita Villa-Landa Sokolova, both from the University of Granada.
The first, by a research on the design of coastal regenerations by techniques of simulation of climatic variables, applied to the delta of the Guadalfeo, in Motril (Granada).
The second has been for a work on the urban water sector in Spain and the need for an independent water regulatory body.
The Vice Chancellor for Transfer, Entrepreneurship and Employment, Francisca Tomás, took part in the award ceremony, which highlighted the great activity carried out by the Chair of Water and Sustainability, led by Professor Teresa Navarro.
This last professor and the manager of EMUASA, the organism that collaborates with the Chair, José Albaladejo, have also made it special emphasis on highlighting the quality of the papers submitted to the call.
For his part, both the rector of the UMU, José Orihuela, and the president of the Social Council, Juan Antonio Campillo, have highlighted the importance that the issues analyzed in the work have for the Region of Murcia.
The event was also attended by the dean of the faculty, Lorenzo Morillas.
To this second edition of the prizes 22 researchs from students of different Spanish universities were presented.
