Parks and Gardens withdraws more than 465,000 kilos of oranges from the trees of Murcia and districts (26/01/2018)

The Department of Modernization of the Administration, Urban Quality and Participation, through the Service of Parks and Gardens, is performing the pruning and removal of oranges from the 13,210 orange trees planted in neighborhoods and districts of Murcia.

In this way, a score of workers are working for three months in the withdrawal of more than 465 tons of oranges in the trees.

Guillén recalled that this pruning seeks to achieve "is to avoid accidents by the fall of oranges, thus ensuring the safety of pedestrians, improve the cleanliness of public spaces and that trees grow well distributed thus offering greater shade."

In addition, according to experts, this is an improvement of the tree to eliminate the fruit and encourage greater flowering and development of the buds of the specimen.

In addition, Guillén recalled that this time, from the entry of winter to March, is the ideal date to remove the possible dry branches, in poor condition or those that cross also the withdrawal of ripe fruits is made.

The oranges are collected by employees of the Parks and Gardens Service who send them directly to the waste plant for composting.
