Europe is committed to the sustainable progress of cities
For more than ten years, the URBACT program has been part of the European Territorial Cooperation Program with the aim of promoting sustainable integrated urban development in cities throughout Europe.
It is an instrument of the cohesion policy, co-financed by the ERDF, which is developed in the 28 Member States of the European Union, Norway and Switzerland.
Throughout the period 2014-2020, the aim is to continue promoting sustainable integrated urban development and contribute to the implementation of the Europe 2020 strategy, seeking as objectives to improve the capacity of cities in the management of integrated urban development policies and their practices and in the design of strategies and action plans and improve the process of implementation of said strategies and action plans.
In this framework, there are currently only 11 URBACT work networks funded by the European Commission.
The city of Murcia belongs to one of them, Urbact Interactive Cities (field governance and economics).
It is an innovative project that explores how digital social networks and user-generated content can contribute to improving urban management in European cities today.
