The Councilor for Modernization of Administration, Urban Quality and Participation, José Guillén, the Councilor for Employment, Tourism and Culture, Jesús Pacheco and the Councilor for Youth and Development Cooperation, Rebeca Pérez, attended this afternoon the bilateral meeting with the representatives of Génova Cesare Torre (Director of the Department of Urban Marketing, Promotion of the City and Cultural Activities), Gianluca Saba (Head of Service of International Relations), Barbara Poggio (Coordinator of European Programs of the International Relations Service) and Marisa Gardella ( Head of Communication, Marketing, Digital Strategy and Social Networks and City branding).
The city of Genoa is a reference in the Eurocities network and heads the city branding working group, also promoting the creation of the working group of interactive cities.
The purpose of the meeting was to study the creation of this new group of which the city of Murcia would be co-founder within the Eurocities Knowledge Society Forum
The City Branding and International Economic Relations Working Group focuses on how city identity, branding and marketing can reinforce strategic plans for growth and prosperity by attracting investment, business, people and tourists .
The main objectives are to know how to create an attractive international business climate and attract specific talent, how to use large events to strengthen the attractiveness of the city and how to measure the impact of the city's brand efforts, how to create an attractive city for inhabitants and tourists and how to develop marketing and branding strategies for cities in order to obtain cross-cutting benefits for the implementation of their policies.
In addition, at the meeting Murcia councilmen have proposed to the Italian representatives that a delegation of journalists from Genoa visit Murcia to promote the municipality in their city, as Murcia journalists did last December.
Eurocities is the network of large European cities.
Founded in 1986, the network brings together local governments from more than 140 large cities in 30 countries, providing a platform for the exchange of experiences, the analysis and development of common problems and innovative solutions, through a wide range of forums, of work groups, projects, activities and events.
The Spanish cities that are integrated in the Eurocities network are Barcelona, ​​Bilbao, Donostia, Gijón, Girona, Las Palmas, Madrid, Malaga, Murcia, Santiago de Compostela, Seville, Terrassa, Valencia and Zaragoza.
