In the Final Master's Degree category with the project 'Diagnosis of the current state of Elche for its transformation into a Smart Destination'
"All the effort that I have developed over months to achieve excellence has been rewarded" are the words of Francisco Mas Pérez, student of the Master in Tourism Innovation and Marketing at the Catholic University of Murcia and winner of the first prize granted by the Spanish Association of Normalization and Certification (AENOR) for its research project on the 'Diagnosis of the current state of Elche for its transformation into a Smart Destination'
The concept 'Smart Destination', or also called Intelligent Tourist Destination, arises through innovation and new technologies that are occurring in tourism sectors.
The objective of this research is to be an innovative model capable of satisfying the needs of the current tourism market and in turn anticipating the immediate future.
"Technology now plays an important role and to be a competitive tourist destination, innovation is paramount," emphasizes Francisco Mas Pérez.
It is about "implementing a new model to be able to have a competitive advantage, being an intelligent model, valuing the management of information, with intelligent data", says the award-winner.
For this, Francisco Mas has evaluated the situation in which the city of Elche is currently located as a tourist destination, establishing a scorecard in terms of innovation, technology, accessibility and sustainability that tourism presents in this city.
From this axis, a system of intelligent indicators has been set, that is, parameters, with the objective of measuring these instruments and checking if the destination is really an intelligent place or if it is not;
know what is the process that leads to it.
The result: Elche is sufficiently qualified to begin the conversion towards an intelligent tourist destination, that is, to be an innovative city taking advantage of Information and Communication Technologies.
