The Municipal Socialist Group will defend a motion at the next Plenary to demand an increase in the number of places in day centers in order to facilitate a better quality of life for the elderly of the municipality and also their families.
The socialist spokesperson, Susana Hernández, believes that "the welfare state has to honor its name and for this the political leaders have to put all the effort to guarantee the necessary resources that allow citizens to live to the end in the best conditions, especially if it is the sector of the population that has contributed with its income throughout its working life to the maintenance of that welfare state ".
It also states that expanding the number of places in day centers is a demand from municipal boards for years and "we only have three municipally owned centers, which fall short to serve our elders."
In this regard, remember that Spain, with an average of 83 years, is the second country with the highest life expectancy at birth among the countries of Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), according to its latest report, published last month November, only after Japan.
However, as the aforementioned study warns, this indicator does not mean that these years are lived in optimal health conditions.
Therefore, taking into account that "this increase in the longevity of our citizens is not accompanied by the best conditions or an optimum quality of life, since some illnesses and illnesses, which lead to an increase in the number of dependents in different grades, are prevented. It makes urgent to expand the number of places in the day centers, so that our elders are well taken care of ".
For all these reasons, Hernández asks the Government team to expand the number of places in the day centers of the municipality in collaboration with the Autonomous Community.
