Pedro Francisco Almaida Pagán, researcher of the Department of Physiology at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Murcia, has obtained an aid from the Scholarship program "Opportunity to talent" of the ONCE Foundation.
This program is committed to social inclusion and equal opportunities, boosting talent and promoting the academic and research career of university students with disabilities, thus promoting their inclusion in highly skilled jobs.
The incorporation of people with disabilities in the field of research is one of the pending tasks of the Spanish university system.
The fact is that the UMU was recognized just three years ago as the Best Public Sector Organization in the Telefónica Ability Awards, the Spanish edition of the main award in the field of accessibility and the integration of people with disabilities.
The University of Murcia is the Spanish higher education institution with the highest proportion of students with disabilities in its classrooms. It is also the first regional public institution that carried out a general accessibility study of all its facilities in order to solve the deficiencies found.
The UMU will launch new initiatives to facilitate access to teaching and research career in an inclusive manner, and to improve the working conditions of people with talent who have some kind of disability, in order to facilitate their development in the scope of the investigation.
