The first phase of the Kif-kif project has ended in the Region of Murcia: Comics for inclusion.
A project led by the Al Fanar Foundation, which after its success during the last course in Madrid and Catalonia has arrived in Murcia thanks to the interest and funding of the Campus Mare Nostrum.
The final balance of the 30 workshops implemented in six institutes by the Murcia Acoge association is very satisfactory, as reflected both the surveys of the students and the reports of the teachers responsible for the courses where they have been taught.
The objectives have been achieved, especially the fact that the students have worked and understood issues such as the intersection between Islamophobia, gender and cultural racism.
It has reflected on concepts such as the right to equality and to be different at the same time.
The activity has been valued as very rich, highlighting the great success of using comics as a formula to capture the attention of young people and make them reflect through characters who, by moving away from the personification of comrades, allow them to tackle complicated issues with greater perspective.
The comments of the students have also been very positive, reflecting the impact that the project has had when reflecting on stereotypes or issues such as diversity that were not clear, as these comments demonstrate when asked about what they have learned thanks to the Kif-kif, among them:
• "That by thinking in a different way or having different beliefs from the people around you, we should not discriminate"
• "In this project I learned things that I did not know about this religion and I think that the image we have today of Islam is very exaggerated and negative"
• "We are all different but equal"
The project has had a significant media reflection, with coverage in the media
After the success of this first phase in the Region of Murcia, the Campus Mare Nostrum has committed to further deepen this work by supporting the completion of the project in six new institutes during the remainder of the 2017-18 academic year.
