During the celebration of the International Tourism Fair, it is planned to sign a collaboration agreement between Mayor José Ballesta and the president of RENFE, which will lay the foundations for future actions that will be jointly carried out to promote the line high speed Murcia-Madrid
The Councilor for Employment, Tourism and Culture, Jesús Pacheco, this morning held a meeting with representatives of the Association of Collaborating Members of the Office of Congresses of Murcia and tourism experts to continue working on the actions to be developed in Fitur, which will be held from January 17 to 21 in Madrid.
Thus, during the next edition of the International Tourism Fair, the City Council has planned a series of activities aimed at the tourist promotion of the city, having already confirmed an agenda of more than 20 visits with operators and professional agents.
In this way, from the Department of Employment, Tourism and Culture will take advantage of the declaration of 2018 as European Year of Cultural Heritage for the municipality of Murcia on Wednesday 17 a promotional video called 'Murcia Mediterranean Heritage', in which It will show a renewed and complete image of a sample of the cultural heritage of the municipality.
Another new feature will be the strengthening of family tourism following the lines of action marked in the Tourism Operational Plan of the municipality.
For this, a tourist activity adapted to the youngest ones will be presented, which, under the name 'Murcia en Detalles Kids', will allow the involvement of parents and teachers through entertainment, offering the children a different and original way of contemplating the city and its heritage, boosting the routes and tourist trips through the historic center of Murcia and thus awakening the interest of children for history and art.
With this same objective of promoting family and cultural tourism, various tour packages have been created that offer families visiting the municipality free admission to museums and emblematic buildings, a guided tour of the city, as well as the entrance to the Terra Natura park or a boat trip on the river.
During the celebration of Fitur, Murcia will be represented at the ordinary annual assembly of the network of AVE cities, to be held in Madrid.
It is also planned to sign a collaboration agreement between Mayor José Ballesta and the president of RENFE, which will lay the foundations for future actions that will jointly be carried out for the promotion of the Murcia-Madrid high-speed line, such as familiarization trips with journalists and travel agents, projection of promotional videos of the city on trains, custom seat headers ...
Likewise and thanks to the aforementioned agreement, future visitors will have significant discounts (in some cases up to 35%) to reach Murcia, especially in the sector of congresses where more than 20,000 people can benefit from these offers, assuming they save more than 700,000 euros.
Balance of tourists of 2017
According to the data collected until November on travelers and overnight stays in the municipality provided by the National Institute of Statistics, they reveal an increase in the city of more than 19,000 passengers, which has been 4.8% compared to the same period of 2016. Likewise, overnight stays have increased by 35,000, which represents an increase of 5'5% compared to 2016.
It is important to note that of the total of 1,209,677 travelers who have visited the Region of Murcia generating a total of 2,974,782 overnight stays, the city of Murcia has been, by far, the one that has contributed the best data to these totals, having had a total of 415,000 travelers.
This is 34.35% of all travelers who have visited the region with 675,000 overnight stays, representing 22.68% of all overnight stays in the region.
These data show the importance of the municipality of Murcia within a sector as important as tourism in the total calculation of the Region.
In terms of the hotel occupancy of the city, the data for 2017 reflect the upward trend that the municipality is having in the last two years within the sector, having had an increase of 6'3% occupancy with respect to 2016 and more than 11% compared to 2015.
Likewise, hotel prices have also begun to go the upward path of the rest of Spain and normalize, having had an increase of 4'1% over 2016 and almost 9% over the year 2015
