José Ballesta: "The revitalization of the neighborhood thanks to the involvement of the neighbors has had a direct impact on the associations and local trade, which have been strengthened and enriched reciprocally."
Some thirty establishments have joined this Association that enhances the human character of local commerce.
Today the campaign has been presented the 'Santa Eulalia Commerce Christmas Tree'.
The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Trade, Organization and Institutional Relations, Maruja Pelegrín, this morning held a meeting with the Santa Eulalia Merchants Association, created recently thanks to the Municipal Urban DNA project for the revitalization of the neighborhood .
"Santa Eulalia has been the first experience of urban intervention that we have made from the City Council with the direct collaboration of the neighbors, a pilot and international reference project that has had a direct impact on the associations and local commerce, which have been strengthened and enriched reciprocally ", explained the mayor, who added that" we hope to extend in successive phases to other neighborhoods this pioneering initiative for which more than one thousand actions of improvement have been carried out in Santa Eulalia ".
Specifically, the new Association, whose president is Antonio García-Melgares, has about thirty neighborhood merchants who today have presented the campaign 'Christmas Tree of Santa Eulalia Commerce', which enhances the human character of local commerce and of neighborhood, thanks to the support of the City of Murcia.
This initiative involves the merchants themselves, who have hung on a fir tree images of themselves with the articles of their establishments, becoming known as entrepreneurs but also as neighbors of the neighborhood.
The Association has among its future plans not only revitalize local trade, but also improve the urban environment and promote cultural and social activities.

Cleaning of graffiti in public spaces, planting of new green areas and trees next to neighbors, urban gardens, improvement of lighting in squares, greater accessibility, new underground containers, etc.
To this end, the City Council has strengthened the participation and direct involvement of residents with interventions in the public spaces of the neighborhood, promoting the sense of belonging of its inhabitants so that, in this way, they are involved in their care and improvement.
It must be borne in mind that the project to revitalize the Santa Eulalia neighborhood is already an international benchmark and has been considered as an example of good practice in Europe.
In fact, a score of international observers visited the neighborhood last June, to closely analyze the project and export it to their respective countries of origin.
