The Governing Board has approved this morning the addendum of this exercise of collaboration agreement between the City Council and the Bishopric of Cartagena in order to carry out a second phase of rehabilitation works around the Sanctuary of the Fuensanta.
For this, the Department of Modernization of the Administration, Urban Quality and Participation will grant a grant to the Bishopric of Cartagena of 36,792 euros.
The works will be developed on a plot of 1,322 square meters located on the hillside of the Fuensanta, next to the sanctuary and the so-called Casa de los Canónigos, although the major actions will be carried out in an area of ​​378 square meters in which the mirador is located , the platform and the stairs.
Thus, the pavement will be replaced in the walks and viewpoints, including, in addition, the rails, pilasters and current decorations, the masonry will be restored in the walls of the lower platform and stairs to the Cabildo's house, and the higher zones
The project also contemplates the repair of the coronations and the rest of the brick factories, and railings and metal elements will be placed to guarantee safety.
The City Council intends to participate in the recreational, social and cultural revitalization of this area.
It must be remembered that in August of last year, the conditioning works were carried out in the back part of the Sanctuary, where the garden is extended, which consisted of the arrangement of the pedestrian walkway, the replacement of the curbs and the repair of the flowerbeds.
In addition, at the beginning of this year works were carried out on the ramp that gives access to the Sanctuary, guaranteeing security and a better access to this environment visited by thousands of faithful.
