The City Council supports the Bells of Auroros to preserve its centennial historical and cultural heritage (26/12/2017)

Signing of the collaboration agreement between the Consistory and the seven Bells of Auroros of the municipality.

José Ballesta: "The singing of those deep voices of La Huerta is a valuable legacy, unique to the municipality of Murcia, which have been transmitted orally from generation to generation."

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Employment, Tourism and Culture, Jesús Pacheco, signed the collaboration agreement between the City Council and the Bells of Auroros of the municipality of Murcia;

an agreement that aims to preserve and spread the cultural and musical legacy of these brotherhoods that were born in the dawn of the seventeenth century and whose folklorico-religious tradition is a unique heritage of the municipality of Murcia.

"Tradition is the memory of a people, what surpasses us in time;

a bond of union necessary between what has been and what will be, "said José Ballesta, who noted that" the Bells of Auroros, those deep voices that meet at dawn in the lanes of La Huerta, around a lantern and with the bell itself in hand, constitute a valuable cultural and historical heritage, which have been transmitted orally from generation to generation ".

The event, which took place in the Plaza de la Cruz, had representatives of the seven Murcia associations: Bell of Auroros of Our Lady of the Rosary of Rincon de Seca, Folkloric Group Virgen del Carmen of Rincon de Seca, Bell Association of Auroros Virgin of the Rosario de Javalí Nuevo, Brotherhood of Our Lady of the Rosary of Santa Cruz, Brotherhood Association of the Aurora of Javalí Viejo, Association Cuadrilla de Animas Our Lady of the Fuensanta de Patiño and Bell Association of Auroros Our Lady of the Rosary of El Palmar.

A centuries-old story

With this agreement, the City Council promotes traditional and cultural events and the promotion of tourism in the city of Murcia, contributing € 42,000 (€ 6,000 for each of the seven Bells of Auroros, who undertake to carry out actions inside and outside the municipality and to maintain the activity of the Aurora School and Music).

Auroros bells were born in the seventeenth century and developed with greater impetus in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, each of them under the invocation of Mary in any of its various devotions and denominated bells for being the only instrument that accompanies the human voice .
