The University of Murcia, from its Campus of International Excellence Mare Nostrum, coordinated by Professor Pilar Garrido Clemente, is part of the Observatory of Islamophobia in the media, and will lead its academic field, made up of several universities.
In its founding Declaration, signed by various organizations, the Observatory states: "We believe in a journalism that reports responsibly, that promotes interculturality and avoids generalizations that stigmatize the entire Muslim community and that may end up laying the foundations of a fracture. social that only benefits violent extremists. "
Among the objectives of the Observatory of Islamophobia in the media, are the following: to promote the debate on the responsibility of the media in the creation of stereotypes and distorted images of these communities, to spread positive messages of diversity and interculturality related to the Muslim community Through the media, produce a style book of good practices in collaboration with the Spanish Foundation urgently and, ultimately, contribute to the inclusion of the Muslim community as part of European society, avoiding its criminalization and marginalization.
