Each contribution will be entirely dedicated to concrete actions that have an immediate reflection in improving the quality of life of the most vulnerable people.
José Ballesta: "This agreement was born with the aim of being an example for society as a whole, demonstrating that the common effort and solidarity is an effective action for the fight against poverty."
José Moreno: "All help is useful, because our true mission is not only to offer food and bed, but to help them in the reconstruction of their lives, with dignity as a basis".
The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, and the president of the Jesus Abandoned Foundation, José Moreno, today signed a collaboration agreement to promote and facilitate the donation of funds from municipal workers who so wish, a contribution that will be used entirely for help the homeless in the municipality and fight against poverty and social exclusion.
The event held on the terrace of the Moneo building was also attended by the Councilor for Modernization, José Guillén, the Councilor for Social Rights, Conchita Ruiz, and the Councilor for Sports and Health, Felipe Coello.
"People with fewer resources are those who have suffered the most from the effects of the crisis, generating dramatic situations before which we can not remain indifferent.
This agreement opens a new avenue of collaboration that was born with the aim of being an example for society as a whole, demonstrating that the common effort and solidarity is not only a value to spread, but an effective action for the fight against poverty and the defense of the dignity of every human being, "said the mayor.
The agreement signed today is governed by the principles of "teamwork" and "trust and enthusiasm in the project that Jesus Abandoned carries out in Murcia, 365 days a year," explained the mayor, with the commitment that each contribution will be destined to concrete actions that have an immediate reflection in the improvement of the living conditions of the group of people at risk of social exclusion.
In this way, the 3,000 workers of the City of Murcia who wish may donate to Jesus Abandoned the fixed monthly amount they prefer, between 5 and 100 euros, periodically and voluntarily, directly from their payroll.
Likewise, the amounts may be modified, suspended temporarily or indefinitely, as well as increased at any time they wish.
The president of Jesus Abandoned thanked the City of Murcia to join this initiative because "all help is valid and useful for us, we fight every day to improve the living conditions of people at risk of exclusion.
Hence our motto of offering more than eating and sleeping, because our real mission is to help them in the reconstruction of their lives, with dignity as a basis ».
All amounts that the Foundation receives under this agreement will be subject to the regime of tax deductions for donations in the next campaign of the Rent.
Specifically, each donor can deduct 75% of the first 150 € and 30% of the remaining amount, which increases to 35% after two years of continuous donations.
The City Council undertakes to transfer the total amount monthly to the Jesús Abandonado Foundation and to publish the Justification Report presented to the Foundation on a monthly basis on the Consistory's website.
This agreement comes to reaffirm the commitment of the City of Murcia in the fight against social exclusion that the Fundación Jesús Abandonado has been developing for 30 years.
This struggle, however, "would not have been possible without the support of the citizens, who have been by our side every time we have needed it.
On this occasion, the City of Murcia, represented by its mayor, comes to lend a hand in raising awareness to society of the importance of their collaboration so that in Jesus Abandoned we can continue to keep our door open 365 days a year to everyone who needs us, "added José Moreno.
