Cambiemos Murcia will take a motion to the plenary on Thursday, proposing the preparation of a protocol for the treatment of pruning remains in the agricultural lands of the orchard for use as compost.
The councilman who will defend the motion, Sergio Ramos, explained that the management of the farmland in the municipality produces a large amount of pruning remains that in most cases are burned in the same plot where they have been generated .
In addition to aggravating pollution problems, these burns represent a loss of organic matter that "with good management could bring quality to the soil", both in the plantations themselves and in the most degraded areas.
In addition, "it would help reduce carbon dioxide emissions, helping to mitigate the effects of climate change, which especially affects the agricultural sector," added the mayor.
This type of initiative has been implemented in many municipalities in the country, either by providing domestic shredders to neighbors who want to generate their own compost, such as transport to centralized facilities for large-scale treatment.
In the case of Murcia, the resulting compost could be distributed between the user and the City Council, which could use it for the regeneration of land.
The proposal of Cambiemos Murcia, elaborated by the sectorial of Huerta and Model of City of the municipalist formation, proposes that the mentioned protocol is elaborated from the municipal instances with the collaboration of users and environmental groups.
