"It is one of the most veteran volunteer organizations in Murcia and throughout Spain," said José Ballesta in the presentation for the International Volunteer Day.
Auxilia Murcia, through the altruistic work of its 100 volunteers, provides support so that people with disabilities can perform leisure activities and free time.
Solidarity markets, exhibitions, children's workshops and performances will take place in the city throughout this coming year.
Coinciding with the International Volunteer Day celebrated today, December 5, the mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, along with Councilwoman Rebeca Pérez, the founder of Auxilia Murcia, Cristina Lapuente, and the delegate of that entity, Almudena Martínez, presented the 50th Anniversary of this Volunteer Association that aims to integrate people with disabilities through leisure activities and free time.
"This year 2018 the Association - one of the oldest volunteer organizations in Murcia and throughout Spain - celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of its implementation in our city in 1968, thanks to the initiative of Cristina Lapuente," said the mayor, who added that "to celebrate it they have organized a complete program of activities in different areas of the city, so that all Murcia who want to know their work and collaborate with them."
Among the events that have organized and will be developed throughout the next year include parades, a charity party and gala dinner, solidarity markets, exhibitions, theatrical performances, workshops for children, meetings, dog training exhibitions and other acts of protest.
Auxilia Murcia, despite its longevity and being a founder of FAMDIF-COCEMFE, is a small association as far as workers are concerned, since it is mainly nurtured by the altruistic work of university students - many of them are derived to Famdif associations -.
Auxilia Murcia currently has around fifty active volunteers and a group of 80 people with disabilities divided into two groups: young people and children.
From its beginnings in 1968 until now, Auxilia Murcia has evolved not only in services but in activities and resources, as well as in improving the quality of life of people with physical disabilities in different areas (education, accessibility, work, health ...)
Support in leisure and free time
Auxilia is an association of International nature and recognized by the Ministry as Public Utility, which was born by the initiative of a group of young people who wanted to alleviate the educational, social and personal needs of children, youth and adults with disabilities.
It works the integral formation (personal autonomy, formation, integration in the districts), as well as activities of leisure and free time, covering the needs of free time and family respites of its users.
