The installation of the tree that presides over the Plaza Circular and whose inauguration was celebrated by more than 15,000 people last Saturday does not violate any regulations.
The Municipal Ordinance of Regulation of Energy Efficiency and Prevention of Lighting Pollution of Outdoor Lighting provides in Article 2.4 that the City of Murcia, for duly justified reasons, may adopt exceptional solutions to the Ordinance, including actions related to these Christmas celebrations.
In addition, Article 8.4 specifies that among the cases in which the restrictions may be object of exception are the 'temporary events of special social, cultural or sports interest, provided that the City Council authorizes', as is the case.
This was explained by José Guillén, Councilor for Modernization, Urban Quality and Participation, in response to the Huermur demonstrations.
"It is a satisfaction that they share with the City Council our concern for pollution and for the protection of our environment," said the Popular Group councilor.
He added that 'obviously the tree will remain in the Plaza Circular temporarily, as long as these Christmas holidays last' and showed its conviction that such initiatives contribute to strengthen the 'environment of these dates of celebrations and is good for trade, tourism and the urban appeal of our city.
