The Health Sciences Campus of the University of Murcia (UMU), in El Palmar, today welcomed the act of placing the first stone of the building of Classrooms and Laboratories of Internships for Students, which was chaired by the owner of the autonomous government, Fernando López Miras, and the rector, José Orihuela.
In the information on the project, the Vice Chancellor of Economy, Sustainability and Health Sciences, José María Abellán, has indicated that the public tender for the realization of the works was awarded to Acciona Construcciones in the amount of 10.4 million euros , with a contribution of the Feder Funds of 5.3 million.
The building will have a surface somewhat superior to 16,800 square meters, with six floors and a basement.
It will have 18 teaching rooms, 22 practice rooms, 16 group work rooms and 8 laboratories, with capacity for more than 2,200 students.
The execution period will be 16 months.
The rector thanked the presence of Lopez Miras, so it is the commitment of the Autonomous Community with the development of this campus, and also thanked the collaboration of the City of Murcia and the Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura.
The president of the Autonomous Community has stressed that the campus will contribute to build the Murcia Region of the future, based on knowledge and freedom, he said.
He added that the building from which the first stone was placed today will contribute to the students' education in excellence.
He also thanked the collaboration of all the agencies involved in the project, in which he has also included the Fuertes Group, which has also contributed to it.
The event was also attended by the Minister of Employment, Universities and Business, Juan Hernández, and the President of the Social Council of the UMU, Juan Antonio Campillo.
