Next Wednesday, November 29 at 8:00 pm at the Archaeological Museum of Murcia (MAM) will be presented, free of charge, the latest results of the excavation of the Cueva del Arco (Cieza) and the findings in the Almadenes Canyon.
This activity aims to publicize the project initiated in 2015 by Ignacio Martín Lerma, doctor in Prehistory and professor at the University of Murcia, and Dr. Dídac Román from the University of Barcelona.
An arduous project that has counted with the collaboration of multidisciplinary professionals, national and international, and with students of the UMU.
In it will be announced the main findings of the Cueva del Arco and recent discoveries of rock art within the Almadenes Canyon, in the vicinity of the cave.
Also, the most representative pieces will be exhibited and videos of the excavation process will be screened.
The results obtained so far confirm the existence of occupations belonging to the ancient Neolithic (7000 years), Solutrean (21,000 years), Gravettian (30,000 years) and Mousterian (45,000 years).
A revelation that strengthens this site as one of the few in the Iberian Mediterranean in which the transition between the last Neanderthals and the first Homo sapiens can be documented.
The excavations have been made thanks to the subsidy provided by the Cieza City Council and the General Directorate for the Environment, and the support of the General Directorate of Cultural Assets.
In addition, this campaign has had the sponsorship of the company "Patatas Catalán" and the collaboration of the OJE de Cieza.
