The streets of the center of the city of Murcia hosted on Saturday the first edition of the "Reading Street" campaign whose objective was none other than to disseminate the activities and services of Municipal Network of Libraries of Murcia among the citizens of the municipality of Murcia.
To this end, a series of initiatives chosen among those carried out regularly in the 17 libraries of the RMBM were made available to the attendees.
A pioneering initiative that will be repeated in the coming months in different locations in the city and its districts.
Three tents with 50 chairs and numerous shelves with books became the epicenter of this new way of enjoying literature outdoors and free of charge.
There were also five tables for chess fans and a stage where various performances or performances with puppets were carried out.
"There are many and varied activities that our libraries offer throughout the course, in which we also have programming for both minors, and young people and adults, and a complete network of literary or audiovisual material at your fingertips, so that we must make an effort and reach those who are unaware of the possibilities offered by the City of Murcia, "explained the head of Education during the course of the activity.
But in addition to the activities carried out, we must highlight the success of the literary-historical journey that was guided by the Chronicler Antonio Botías and the historian Álvaro Hernández.
The route began in the Plaza de Santo Domingo, where the history of the surroundings, its palaces and the Dominican order were explained, as well as the mysteries of the Piazza del Romea, the theater and its black legend and other outstanding buildings.
On this tour, the dozens of people who accompanied them, heard the importance of the silk industry for the development of the city, the history of the most illustrious names and their most recognized members and various legends that still remain in the city, as is the case of the Callejón del Cabrito, the chain of the Los Vélez chapel and its skeleton and the flight of the devil over the tower of the Cathedral.
