Drawings and photographs invite us to reflect on the incalculable value of water and its beauty, with costumbristas works by Ángel Díaz Huertas, satirical by Antonio Mingote or intimate by García and Rodríguez.
The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, the director of the ABC Museum and curator of the exhibition, Inmaculada Corcho, the president of the ABC Collection Foundation, Soledad Luca de Tena, the director of Futuro en Español, Javier Galiana, and the general director of La Verdad, Antonio González, presented today the exhibition 'Memory of water', which opens this afternoon, at 8:00 pm, at the Molinos del Río, as part of the 'Future in Spanish' days that begin tomorrow.
The double objective of this exhibition is to make us reflect on water as an asset of incalculable and limited value, but also to make us enjoy the beauty that we can find in each drawing, in each photograph where this treasure is the protagonist.
They include costumbristas works of Ángel Díaz Huertas, satirical of Antonio Mingote, Mena or Lorenzo Goñi, intimistas of Manuel García and Rodríguez.
The ABC Museum of Drawing and Illustration has selected almost 40 pieces of its funds for this exhibition in Murcia.
As a complement, a selection of photographs from the ABC Archive.
The exhibition offers us, from the aesthetic point of view, an emotive history of water: from the contemplation of artists -sometimes lyrical, sometimes with some dose of humor-, to the realistic narration -no independent of beauty- of photographers.
«Water is a universal right».
This declaration was approved by the United Nations in 2010. The presence or absence of water in the territory marks differences that can not be corrected without the effort of all.
Its accessibility and its use are fundamental for the development of communities, as it has been since the appearance of life on this planet.
Water is, without discussion, a right but also carries associated duties: optimal utilization -because it is a limited resource-, as well as adequate distribution and management.
An intelligent and sustainable use in which the people, the companies and the states of the developed world are obliged to take part.
All these issues will be discussed in one of the days to be held tomorrow, Tuesday 28, and last, Wednesday, November 29, in the Futuro en Español forum.
Murcia: a thousand years of history in the intelligent management of water
José Ballesta stressed that "in Murcia, the intelligent management of water resources has more than a thousand years of history, thanks to the system of ditches and channeling elements that the Arabs built around the Segura Valley.
Our irrigation network is one of the oldest in Spain and a benchmark in water saving and efficiency ".
"The drought now worries the whole of Spain.
The national media focuses its attention on the water crisis situation in which we find ourselves.
In Murcia, however, we have been facing this adverse scenario for decades, being a reference region in the management of water in the Spanish Mediterranean Arc, "said the mayor, who added that" the intelligent management of energy, water and agricultural production are the three challenges of the cities of tomorrow. "
The masters of the Spanish illustration in the exhibition
In the works of the exhibition we discover the manifestation of the immediate and the spontaneous.
But also, they are full of meanings and intentions of the body, the soul and the artistic expression of its author reflecting the tastes and, of course, the artistic currents of each era.
Here, thanks to the flow of water, they acquire coherence as a set and expression of an idea.
The tour of the exhibition allows us to rediscover the work of some of the most important masters of Spanish illustration, who are present in the ABC Collection.
Some funds that go through the history of our country from 1891 to the present day.
The photographic selection includes graphic testimonies related to this element as a generator of life and human communities in their environment;
the great infrastructures that provide us with water and, finally, its power as an element of destruction and death.
Spreading the culture
'Memoria del agua' meets one of the objectives of the ABC Museum in Madrid: the dissemination of its collection and the support for drawing and illustration.
In this endeavor, the museum has found an ally in Caser Seguros that, with its sponsorship, enables the funds of the ABC Collection to be presented in other centers, in other cities, as in this case Murcia, within the framework of Futuro en Español .
"We understand that for an initiative such as Futuro en Español - the most relevant business forum on business opportunities in the Spanish-speaking world, cultural exchange and the possibilities of emerging economies - presenting exhibitions is not only a way of supporting Spanish culture to through the plastic arts;
It is also a means to promote knowledge of Spanish.
In this sense, it seemed a good idea to design this exhibition presenting drawings from our collection that are a good complement to the debate that will be generated in the second day of the Future in Spanish in Murcia, which will delve into innovation and technology in the management of resources water, "says the director of the ABC Museum, Inmaculada Corcho.
