Through a mobile stand that will travel through different areas of Murcia, mainly squares and places with an influx of young people, the volunteer program aims to promote citizen participation in knowledge and conservation of the Environment and nature of the Municipality of Murcia through the revitalization of volunteer groups and the implementation of conservation actions and improvement of the natural environment.
The mobile stand will travel between November 27 and December 7, the Plaza de la Universidad, the Glorieta de España, the San Juan de la Cruz Street in front of the Institutes of Floridablanca and Infante, the UMU campus in Espinardo and the UCAM in La Ñora, the Pergola of San Basilio, the artillery barracks and the Plaza de Santo Domingo.
The Environmental Volunteering Program of the Municipality of Murcia is part of the environmental awareness and information program of the Environment Department, which also includes an extensive program of guided environmental itineraries, workshops and seminars in family, information for visitors to the spaces of the Majal Blanco and La Contraparada and various environmental diffusion activities.
At the information point, citizens can enroll directly in the Environmental Volunteer Program and information materials will be available for the program and other activities carried out by the Department headed by Antonio Navarro.
In addition, information will be provided on the programs carried out by other entities with which the City Council has signed collaboration agreements, such as ANSE, ADESGA, Fundación Desarrollo Sostenible and ACUDE.
Volunteer program 'We make pineapple!'
The Environmental Volunteering Program of the Municipality of Murcia, which has the motto "¡Hacemos Piña¡", was launched during the last quarter of 2011. At the end of December 2012, the Program had 45 people registered.
In 2013, 10 new activities were scheduled, with a total of 72 volunteers registered at the end of that year.
In 2014, 9 activities were carried out for a total of 104 people registered.
In 2015 there were 184 people enrolled in the Program and 9 activities, which increased in 2016 to 262 people and 10 activities.
At present the number of registered has reached the amount of 319 with 11 activities scheduled this year 2017.
As an example of the activities carried out by the program, between the months of October and December, 4 activities have been programmed, ranging from the preparation of a guide of plants of the interpretive trail of the plaster quarry in the Majal Blanco, to the realization of an inventory of the vegetation in the Contraparada, the maintenance of the ecological garden of ASTRAPACE or the construction of rafts for the recovery of amphibians in the Majal Blanco.
For the 9th of December it is planned to carry out a plantation for the recovery of the riverside forest of the Segura river in collaboration with ANSE.
On the other hand, the Environmental Volunteering Program of the City of Murcia has recently expanded its social objectives by hosting the participation of young people of the Youth Education Center of El Palmar "Las Moreras", a shelter for children and young people in conflict with the law.
With this initiative, the Department aims to support an educational context that favors the social and family insertion of children that fosters personal commitment and respect for the environment among the boys and girls of this educational center as a further step towards their personal development and integration. in society.
