Murcia change, as explained by councilor Nacho Tornel, asked in the plenary next Thursday that the City Council and the Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura carry out the archaeological research, restoration and enhance the value of the Guadalupe dam, dated in a few preliminary inquiries between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
The municipal training recalled that this hydraulic structure is included in the Catalog of Buildings and Protected Elements of the General Urban Plan, which indicates the need to act, in addition to the infrastructure, "within a radius of considerable action with the object of giving testimony of its functionality and its location ".
In fact, according to the mayor, "very close there is an eighteenth century oil mill, called Torre del Zoco, and you can find the archaeological remains of the path of Granada, from between the 1st and 7th centuries".
The weir, which was used to derive the water from the ravine of Cabezo Blanco towards the dry land located on both sides of its channel, has been the protagonist of a study published by professors from the public universities of Murcia and Granada as "a footprint of the hydraulic heritage associated with the culture of Water in the Southeast of Spain ".
Let's change Murcia, which includes what was approved by its initiative in May of this year in the Municipal Board of Guadalupe, will also request the research and archaeological cataloging of this dam that exceeds 15 meters in length and 4.30 meters in height and that conserves two intakes of gaskets, "all solidly built using ashlar masonry, so it still serves for the lamination of avenues".
In addition, the City Council and the Hydraulic Confederation of Segura will be urged to demarcate the public water domain of the rambla, which has been occupied by an urbanization.
