The City of Murcia, through the Department of Youth and Development Cooperation led by Rebeca Perez, has awarded a grant of € 9,239.60 to the Humanism and Democracy Foundation for the development of the project 'Improving access to primary care and preventive health in dermatology and sexually transmitted diseases for the Province of Valverde (Dominican Republic).
A task carried out in collaboration with the Dermatological and Skin Surgery Institute -IDCP- of the Dominican Republic, and with which it is intended to contribute to improving the population's access to primary and preventive health, by expanding coverage and quality of health services offered in dermatology and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) in this region of the Northwest of the Dominican Republic.
The IDCP had a medical center in the province of Valverde that did not allow coverage of the demand of the population of the province of Valverde-Mao.
For this reason, a few years ago, the construction of a new Regional Center specializing in dermatology and ETS was proposed, which would improve the quality of health care in that province.
The center finally began construction in 2016.
In 2017, with the completion of the work, its provision began both in medical equipment of modern technology and in the furniture for waiting areas and necessary care for its implementation.
Finally, two months ago, the Regional Dermatological Center of the Dermatological and Skin Surgery Institute Dr. Huberto Bogaert Díaz opened its doors, providing the population of Valverde-Mao with access to general dermatology, dermatological surgery, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the skin. sexual transmission and clinical and mycological laboratory.
From this Health Unit attention is given at the primary level and in prevention programs, minor surgery interventions are carried out, as well as clinical laboratory tests.
"The help of the City of Murcia has contributed to the medical and sanitary facilities of the center that will allow the study, diagnosis and early treatment of skin diseases and sexually transmitted diseases of the beneficiary population and increase both the number of patients treated As to the number of laboratory tests carried out, to date the planned equipment has already been acquired and put into operation ", said Rebeca Pérez.
It is estimated that 4,943 women and men will be treated during their first year of operation, without discrimination based on sex, age, race, nationality or income level.
They are joined by the entire population living in the province of Valverde, as an indirect beneficiary of the aid, amounting to 1630030 people.
