Students from about one hundred countries will be trained at the Catholic University of Murcia.
An important group of them, around 700 of those who join the UCAM for the first time, attended this afternoon at the reception offered by the president of the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras, at the Palacio de San Esteban.
It should be noted that throughout the course many more new students will be incorporated on a face-to-face basis and, on the other hand, online.
These university students, who have been accompanied by the president of the UCAM, José Luis Mendoza, are going to study at the Catholic University undergraduate studies, mainly in the areas of business sciences, tourism, sports and health sciences, as well as postgraduate degrees, in the most diverse specialties, both in Spanish and in English.
Take the example that in the MBA its 25 students come from 16 different nationalities.
In general, the countries with the highest number of students enrolled in the UCAM are: Italy, France, Colombia, Canada, China, the Philippines, Japan, Nigeria and Ghana.
Precisely a student from Ghana, Hudu Adam, who is studying the MBA, has delivered a T-shirt from the Catholic University to the president of the Community of Murcia.
Adela Martínez-Cachá, counselor of Youth and Sports Education, was also present at the event.
López Miras has assured the students that if they have been in the Region for a few days, they will have been able to verify "that this is truly the best land in the world".
Likewise, he has asserted that "in the Region of Murcia we believe in freedom, in the freedom of important institutions such as the UCAM".
He added that "you are lucky to develop part of your education in a quality university, which prioritizes the research and values of something as important as sport is: merit, work, effort, improvement."
He also stressed that in the Region of Murcia there is freedom to choose where to study, educational plurality and freedom of choice.
And he has invited to know and enjoy the Region: from Cartagena, "city of Europe where Europe was born";
Baroque Murcia, Lorca that has resurfaced after the 2011 earthquakes or Caravaca de la Cruz to win the Jubilee.
He has also invited them to visit the Mar Menor and hike the interior routes, to enjoy the gastronomy, the climate, the warmth of the people and, all this, combined with their studies.
José Luis Mendoza, president of the Catholic University, has also addressed the students saying that "you are a gift for this land and for our University, open to all the movements and realities of the world."
He recalled that the UCAM is present on all five continents and is "a reference model in quality education, research excellence, and technological innovation, in internationalization and sports."
Before and after the official photo with the two presidents, international students have taken the opportunity to make selfies and share them on social networks with their friends and family.
The flags of countries as diverse as Brazil, Italy, Canada, Denmark, Ukraine, Cameroon, the United States, France, China, India or Thailand have been present today at the seat of the Government of the Region of Murcia.
This commitment of the UCAM for internationalization enriches in a fantastic way the coexistence in its Murcia and Cartagena campuses, so that both the students who come from abroad and the Spaniards who live with them benefit from it, and of course all the staff of the University, both teachers and PAS.
In addition, it has as one of its consequences the increase of subsequent international research projects.
Another direct consequence of this is that these young people spend a period of between one and four years living in the Region of Murcia, and many of them also being visited by their family and friends.
Therefore, they will know the Region.
For this, the Catholic University has prepared cultural and leisure support programs, since with their stay they will not only create wealth, but when they leave, they will have acquired an excellent education and will talk about the Region of Murcia for its benefit.
