The councilman of Cambiemos Murcia Sergio Ramos denounces that the Hacendados Board carries out a continuous diversion of water from the main channel of the Aljufía (as can be seen in this video https://youtu.be/WDbic4ulkjA), next to the wheel from La Ñora, to a large reservoir located in the Esparragal, through the northern belt, to favor large farms at the expense of small farmers.
The practice, which supposes the breach of the irrigation rounds indicated in the Ordinances and Customs of the Huerta for a fair distribution of the water, "reserves this fundamental resource to a few".
In spite of the fact that the Segura Hydrographic Confederation announced the closure of the irrigation ditches on November 1 because of the lack of rain and the low flow of the Segura, water comes from the river that is diverted by the belt intake to La Ñora. leaving the rest of the ditch channel completely dry.
This belt was built a few years ago several meters deep, and generated some controversy because the Board of Landowners intended to hide the outlet by burying the largest ditch despite being in the vicinity of the Cultural Interest of the Wheel of the Ñora.
Murcia change defends the irrigation priority of the historic gardens of the Segura and considers "unacceptable that while the vast majority of acequias de la Huerta remain dry and small owners can not water, the Board of Landowners is diverting water to the Esparragal to favor the large agricultural areas located in that area. "
This has been confirmed by several neighbors "who have to go asking favors from the prosecutors to get some water from the channels."
Ramos asks that the available water be distributed equitably and controlled, "thus having all the huertanos right to a minimum irrigation to maintain the plantations".
This is something that several associations have already requested, with the aim also of maintaining a minimum flow in the irrigation ditches that helps the survival of the species that are refugee in the pools.
