Socialists criticize the neglect of the local government that has allowed to miss a service much in demand by residents of neighboring districts who want to attend events or nightlife in the center of Murcia but are forced to take the car to be able to move at night through the municipality
The councilor of the Municipal Socialist Group, Juan Vicente Larrosa, denounced on Wednesday "the inaction of the Ballesta government to allow, since January 2017, there is no owl bus service in the municipality."
Larrosa recalled that, twelve months ago, the drivers of the service as well as the company itself filed a complaint about the insecurity they suffered in the vehicles during the hours they covered, the night.
Although the company tried to tackle the situation by hiring private security for the vehicles, the service finally stopped being offered.
Since then and in spite of the demand of the Socialist Group and the demand of the habitual users (young and not so young of districts, especially), the government of the PP has not managed to restore the service.
"It was said that a negotiation was taking place that we have never heard of again, and the local government does not report where the talks are with the company or if they continue. It will come back or not, but ten months have passed and we are very afraid that we will arrive a year without having recovered this service ".
"Ballesta and his team must work to reach an agreement that allows the service to be restored safely for drivers, a highly demanded service that represents an advance in the non-discrimination of the districts, since it allows the residents who live outside the center they can enjoy the offer of nightlife without having to take the car to go back to their homes, giving more security to the relatives of the young people who use it ".
Larrosa has stressed that, in this way, it also contributes to the reduction of accidents on the road at night.
The Socialist Group will defend a motion in the November plenary session demanding the restitution of this service.
"With political will, we can, and with a real dialogue, since it seems that there is neither one thing nor another." The administrations of the PP want everything to be solved as if by magic, an example is the Transportation Board, a necessary table that does not work because of the carelessness of the Ballesta government ".
Finally, the socialist mayor recalled that "the PSOE achieved an increase of 250,000 euros in the budget for transport, which could be used to improve public transport in the municipality in general and also recover owl bus service urgently "
