The Service of Parks and Gardens, dependent of the Department of Modernization of the Administration, Urban Quality and Participation, that directs José Guillén, through the concessionary company STV Management, has finished the pruning of palms of Murcia and districts.
"The objective of this action is twofold: on the one hand to eliminate all the possible dry branches that harm the specimen and, on the other hand, to remove all the fruits that they have, thus avoiding dirtying the public road", explains the mayor of Modernization, Quality Urbana and Participation, José Guillén.
These works have been carried out by a fortnight of people during approximately four months and have been developed using the traditional manual system of climbing the specimens although, sometimes due to the peculiarities of the palm tree, a basket truck has also been used.
In addition, even if the pruning period has ended, there is always a team that acts on specific specimens according to the needs.
After these works, the palm trees are applied a phytosanitary treatment to prevent the appearance of any pest such as the one known as 'red palm weevil'.
