The Social Centers for the Elderly are aimed at the integral development of people, promoting their participation in the social environment thanks to its configuration as meeting places for the elderly and platform for the development of services and activities.
To this end, the associations that direct them, with the support of Social Rights, promote cultural and leisure activities.
This is why the Social Centers of Seniors receive the necessary support for the maintenance of their facilities and for the development of activities and services;
have different contributions: membership fees, savings institutions, etc., being the most important funding they receive from the City of Murcia.
In this regard, the Government Board, in its commitment to the elderly, has approved a provision of 57,000 euros grant to carry out activities to ensure the proper functioning of the twelve centers in the urban area of ​​Murcia, which bring together more than 6,000 people over 60 years old.
"Once again, it shows the line of collaboration and encouragement by the City Council of the activities carried out by these associations," explained Conchita Ruiz.
Among the activities carried out and which can be continued, in some cases, and expanded, in others, they include:
Formative-cultural activities.
Leisure activities / sports / leisure.
Activities of coexistence.
Activities in coordination with other associative entities of the district / hamlet.
Participation in the general activities organized by the Council of Social Rights, all included in the Annual Activities Program.
The proposal has taken into account the memory of activities carried out the previous year and the programming of activities for the year 2017.
The Social Centers of Major beneficiaries are those of La Fama, La Flea, La Paz, S. Andres -S.
Antolin, S. Antón, S. Basilio, S. Juan-Sta.
Eulalia- S. Lorenzo - University, Vistabella, Vistalegre, S. Miguel and El Ranero.
Aid to Women's Centers
Likewise, the Government Board has agreed to maintain collaboration with the 15 women's centers in the urban area, which will have a total of 57,400 euros, which are distributed as follows:

The activities for which the grant is intended are the following:
- Training activities aimed at personal development by promoting social and intellectual skills and decision-making, such as training for employment, facilitating access to information and communication technologies, and empowering women to increase employability and entrepreneurship.
As well as awareness activities on gender equality, targeting less sensitive sectors of the population and / or groups.
- Creation and artistic diffusion workshops, which promote artistic creation and production capacities and make women's contributions to culture visible.
- Recreational, leisure and free time, to facilitate the encounter between different groups and women's associations, promoting spaces of shared creative leisure and exchange of good practices on associative development and participation of women.
- Physical-sport activities, which promote healthy habits and improve the physical and mental health of women.
Among them, priority will be given to those activities aimed at fulfilling the objectives and goals set forth in the statutes, and can not allocate more than 50% of the amount subsidized, to the expenditure of physical-sport activities.
