The Rotary clubs carry out numerous initiatives of solidarity in Murcia whose collection destines integrally to the vaccination.
The facade of the Moneo building will be illuminated tonight with a dynamic set of lights of different shades as a sign of the global commitment to eradicate Polio, a fight that is led by the Rotary Foundation and which has already enabled the vaccination of 2,500 million children throughout the country world.

It is an initiative carried out by the City of Murcia at the request of the Rotary Clubs Murcia, Murcia North, Molina de Segura and Murcia University, "whose business and professional leaders develop a humanistic and philanthropic work in their communities, contributing to the responsibility civic and social commitment, "said Mayor Jose Ballesta, who will be present this afternoon with the representatives of these entities.
The Rotary Clubs Murcia, Murcia Norte, Molina de Segura and Murcia University carry out numerous initiatives of solidarity, such as the last Gala and Solidarity Day of March, which coincided with the centennial of the Rotary Foundation, collected 14,000 euros that were allocated in full to vaccination against Polio.
Thanks to the collaboration of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, these funds tripled, since for every dollar raised by the Rotary Foundation, the marriage puts two more.
Very close to the total eradication of the disease
To understand the importance of combating this viral disease that can affect the spinal cord, causing muscle weakness and paralysis, it is necessary to go back to the end of the 70's, when the Rotary Foundation launched this health program world-wide.
Since then to date, a whole new generation of humanity, made up of 2.5 billion children, has been vaccinated, thanks to a global investment of 650 million euros.
This has allowed one of the 120 nations in which Polio was considered an endemic disease, now reduced to two: Afghanistan and Pakistan;
from 350,000 cases diagnosed to only 11 cases a year.
The Rotary Foundation runs this program in collaboration with the United Nations (UN), through Unicef ​​and the World Health Organization (WHO), with the contribution of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
