He is a student of the Degree in Computer Engineering at UCAM, his name is Jaime Álvarez, born in Oviedo and has become the first athlete of eSports awarded by the Catholic University of Murcia.
FIFA national champion Gravesen_1 (which is the name by which all fans of this game know him) has arrived in Murcia to combine his career in electronic sports with academic training.
The UCAM has an important tradition of supporting the sport.
In the Olympic Games of River 16 participated near eighty athletes linked to the UCAM adding a total of fifteen Olympic medals and nine Paralímpicas.
This is possible thanks to the UCAM model of tutoring for athletes, which the European Union has taken as an example for the rest of universities within the ESPORT project.
Thanks to this they are allowed to train and compete at the highest level without leaving the studies.
Now, Gravesen_1 opens the way for eSports athletes, the first to be awarded a scholarship: "I am very happy. This is the only university in Spain that gives me the possibility to compete at the highest level and to seek my goal, which is to be the best player of FIFA of the world, and at the same time to continue with my studies of the Degree in Computer Engineering ".
To make the leap to the international level after proclaiming himself Spanish champion, he has already marked his next goals: "In November we have a world competition in Paris so I want to be there, qualify and take the title."
Now, as the first 'gamer' that comes to UCAM to combine training, competitions and studies as the Olympic athletes, Jaime says that for the Catholic University of Murcia "is a very daring jump and over the years this bet will be worth it At the moment there are not many elite athletes in eSports who study because it is very difficult to set schedules for studies and training. The UCAM is a pioneer in this and having here a space enabled for electronic sports I can use the time between classes to keep training ".
