The event associated with "The European Night of Investigators" will flood Murcia with scientific activities of all disciplines, which will be concentrated in the University square (next to the campus of La Merced), between 18.00 and 22.00 hours.
Under the motto "Where science is born", the most complete edition of this event is presented, in which researchers from the University of Murcia (UMU) along with other institutions such as the Murciano Institute for Agricultural Research and Development and Food (IMIDA) , the IES Floridablanca or the Center for Edaphology and Applied Biology of the Segura (CEBAS), will approach science to adults and children in an entertaining way.
Through games and workshops participants will be able to know fields as diverse as economics, mathematics, history, computer science, chemistry, neuroscience, physics, immunology or psychology.
Thus, guided by UMU researchers, attendees will learn, in booths located in one of the busiest squares in the city, among other things, how the defenses of our body, what can be seen in an ultrasound, how draw on milk, what methods exist to eliminate pesticide residues, how sperm and eggs are viewed under a microscope, how to measure the reflexes, or how to find the solution to the Rubik's cube.
In addition, you will know how much sugar is in each food we eat, how to make a cupcake in two minutes, if we are sufficiently protected against hackers, how to create secure passwords, how to write without Mesopotamia, the importance of pollinators, how quickly we react to a hazard, the latest advances in environmentally friendly energy, magnetic levitation, how a tornado can develop inside a bottle, what symptoms how to develop emotions through smell, among many others.
There will also be a space for women in this party.
The Lyceum of Science of Murcia, Professor Susana Martinez of the UMU and the Seneca Foundation will bring us closer to the scientists from different perspectives.
This year special emphasis will be placed on promoting tourism, since 2017 is the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development.
For this reason, it will count on the participation, among others, of the University School of Tourism of Murcia and have sought workshops aimed at giving visibility to this subject, from approaches as varied as the gastronomy.
In short, with this initiative thousands of people will be able to experiment with all the research areas studied at UMU in order to encourage the scientific vocations of all those who are still studying.
In it, regional associations such as BiotecMur (Association of biotechnologists of the Region of Murcia), the Association of Scientific Dissemination of Murcia and the Association of Young Researchers of the University of Murcia, which will bring the experiments to the street will not fail.
Simultaneously to the workshops, a concert will be held by the University Chamber Orchestra (UMU);
the "Outskirts" projection, on gender islamophobia;
a scientific-musical theater and a dance masterclass, organized by the Broadway Theater Association;
and the concert of the group Atientas, creators of the success Valiente, that will put soundtrack to this evening.
This European event, organized by the Scientific Culture Unit of the Vice-Rectorate of Communication and Culture of the UMU, is funded by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) of the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness. an event promoted by the European Union under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions.
