On the occasion of the International Day of University Sports, the University of Murcia celebrates on Wednesday 20 September the University Sports Gala 2017 and a Debate on the Future of Spanish University Sports.
At the end of 2015, UNESCO established International University Sports Day (IDUS) on 20 September to reaffirm the importance of sport in universities and the role of universities in society as responsible players for the consolidation of quality sport at the service of citizens.
To commemorate this day, the University of Murcia organizes the 2017 Sport Gala and the debate: "Future of Sports in the Spanish University System" on 20 September.
A seminar of the Rector will open at 17:30 in the Teaching Hall of the University Social Center of the Campus of Espinardo, with a debate on "The future of sport in the Spanish university system".
The event will be attended by Jesús Mardaras Arrúe, Deputy Director General for Sports Promotion and Innovation, and Juan Pablo Cerezo Mata, Head of Sports Promotion Service.
Then, at 19:30, will be held in the auditorium of the University Social Center of the UMU the second edition of the Gala of Sport, which will pay tribute to all university athletes students who have participated in the internal competitions and external, while acknowledging those individuals, entities, institutions and federations that have contributed to the promotion of university sports.
During the course of the gala awards will be given to the winners of the Intercentros Tournament, XL Rector's Tournament and Welcome Tournament.
Likewise, the corresponding award of recognition diplomas will be awarded to those students awarded medals at the 2017 Spanish University Championships.
