The commitment acquired by Minister Íigo de la Serna after meeting with the mayor is that the AVE will not start its commercial operation in Murcia if the works for its burial have not been started before.
Jos Ballesta: "I understand the skepticism and disbelief of the neighbors before the commitments of the past, but the time has come for decisions, firm positions and facts."
The AVE will only arrive in Murcia at the moment in which the works for its burial begin.
This was the commitment made today by the Minister of Public Works, Inigo de la Serna, after meeting with the mayor of the city, Jos Ballesta, a meeting that has been held in the City and in which the respective work teams of both Administrations.
"If there is an element that raises doubts and uncertainties among the neighbors of Murcia is the burial.
That is why I want to report on the compromise reached today: the AVE will not start its commercial operation in Murcia if the burial works have not started before ", stressed Jos Ballesta, who wanted to emphasize that" if this were not so, the first to denounce it it would be me and I would adopt the institutional and personal decisions that were derived. "
"I understand the disbelief and skepticism of many neighbors as to the fulfillment of the deadlines and their distrust of the commitments acquired in the past, but the time comes for decisions, firm positions and facts, as the minister also understands" , said the mayor.
Then, Jos Ballesta listed the facts and agreements reached since the beginning of this legislature in the City of Murcia.
"In July 2015, after the inauguration, a meeting was held with the company Murcia Alta Velocidad, which addressed the commitment to the implementation of the 2006 protocol for the construction of the burial.
Phases, deadlines and budget were approved. "
"In November and December 2015 agreements were reached by the Municipal Corporation in its Plenary and also by the Regional Assembly, in which it is proposed the extension of that initial stage of burial that was restricted to Santiago el Mayor (approximately 500 meters ) to the beginning of the Senda de los Garres, passing 1,100 meters. "
"In January 2016 the company Murcia Alta Velocidad meets and approves this new commitment that we had acquired."
"Subsequently, in September 2016 and July 2017 all the assets and rights affected by the prolongation of the burial have been released to public information and all previous procedures are being completed to make it a reality."
Jos Ballesta said that "the city and the Region of Murcia are at the end of a long and tortuous road that in its last stage has lasted 15 years since the first agreements were reached for the arrival of high speed to Murcia, but that goes back 150 years with the arrival of the railroad to the city.
In this sense, he recalled that "Murcia is one of the few Spanish provinces where there is not yet a single kilometer of unbroken or electrified railway line, a situation that will soon be solved."
Permeability and security in affected neighborhoods
"Another element that worries the neighbors is the permeability between the different districts and districts of the affected area," continued the councilman, "difficulties that have been present for more than 150 years, from the arrival of the railroad to the capital, and that they will definitely be resolved when the roads are buried. "
"From the City Council we promised that during this provisional period there would always be two open steps of the three that exist and we have fulfilled it.
Today the bridge over the Camino de Tiosa has been put into operation.
We promised to do so before September 15.
"We are also committed to continue offering future solutions that guarantee permeability and safety, two concepts that must continue to be combined," he said.
